The Indians were in this game until late as the Red Sox only had a 3-2 lead heading into the 7th inning. Jake Westbrook somehow survived the first 6 innings as he allowed 9 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 1 batter and whiffed 5 (he was the losing pitcher). Rafael Betancourt had his worst game of the season at the worst possible time. He worked 1.2 innings and he allowed 5 hits, 6 earned runs, walked 1 batter and whiffed 1 batter. Jensen Lewis followed Betancourt and he worked 1/3 of an inning and he allowed 1 hit (a Youkilis homer), 1 earned run and whiffed 1 batter.

Franklin Gutierrez and Casey Blake each went 2 for 4 in this game. Grady Sizemore was 1 for 3 with an RBI in the Indians last game of the season as the Red Sox won this series 4-3.

The Indians were down 10-1 after the first three innings of this baseball game and they had no chance to recover. Fausto Carmona was awful as he earned the loss by pitching the first two innings and allowing 6 hits, 7 earned runs, walking 4 batters and whiffing 2. Rafael Perez was also pathetic as he followed Carmona working 1/3 of an inning and allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs and walking a batter. Rookie lefty Aaron Laffey was very impressive on Saturday Night as he worked 4.2 innings and allowed 1 hit, 0 earned runs, walked 1 batter and whiffed 3. Joe Borowski pitched a horrible 8th inning as he allowed 3 hits, 2 earned runs and walked 2 batters.

Victor Martinez had a solid game with the bat as he was 2 for 4 with a solo homer which took him a long, long time to get around the bases. Trot Nixon also had a solid game against his old buddies by going 2 for 3. The rest of the Indians were only 2 for 25. This loss evened up the series at 3-3.

The Cleveland Indians had a rough time on Thursday Night with Josh Beckett again. Only Grady Sizemore had a good game with the bat as he was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. The rest of the Indians were a weak 6 for 29 against the Red Sox.

C.C. Sabathia had another bad game as he worked 6 innings and he allowed 10 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 2 batters and whiffed 6 in a losing effort. Rafael Betancourt worked a scoreless 7th inning. Rafael Perez and Tom Mastny did their best to make sure the Tribe couldn’t make a comeback. They worked a combined 2 innings and they allowed 2 hits, 1 earned run, walked 3 batters and whiffed 1. The Indians were still up 3-2 heading to Boston.

The Indians won this game because of outstanding pitching and clutch hitting.  Jake Westbrook had his stuff sinking and he was handcuffing the Red Sox all night long.  He was the winning pitcher by working 6.2 innings and allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 3 batters and whiffing 2.  Jensen Lewis and Rafael Betancourt worked 1.1 scoreless innings and they allowed 0 runs while whiffing 2.  Joe Borowski worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save and preserve a win.

Kenny Lofton had the key hit in this game as he jacked a homer in the 2 inning off of Daisuke Matsuzaka.  Lofton was 1 for 3 with 1 run scored and 2 RBIs.  Asdrubal Cabrera also was clutch as he was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.  The Indians are now up 2-1 in this series.

The Indians couldn’t have felt too good as the Red Sox were battering Fausto Carmona and Rafael Perez early in this game as they are two of their best young pitchers.  Carmona worked the first 4 innings of the game and he allowed 4 hits, 4 earned runs, walked 5 batters and whiffed 5.  Rafael Perez followed Carmona and he worked 1/3 of an inning and he allowed 3 hits and 2 earned runs.  Manny Ramirez and Mike Lowell cranked back to back homers off of Perez.  This is where Eric Wedge outmanaged Terry Francona as he let Jensen Lewis and Rafael Betancourt work 4.2 innings and they allowed only 1 hit, 0 runs and whiffed 4 batters.  Tom Mastny pitched a scoreless 10th inning for the win and Joe Borowski pitched a scoreless 11th inning despite allowing 2 hits and walking a batter.

Eric Wedge also waved his magic wand as he pinch hit Trot Nixon in the 11th inning and he got the eventual game-winning RBI single against lefty reliever Javier Lopez.  Grady Sizemore had an excellent game as he was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored, a double, homer and 1 RBI.  Travis Hafner pitched in as he was 2 for 5.  Victor Martinez had a huge game as he was 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI and Ryan Garko also was solid as he was 2 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI.  Jhonny Peralta was awesome Saturday Night as he was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored, a double, homer and 4 RBIs.  Franklin Gutierrez put the final nail in the Red Sox coffin with a big homer in the 11th inning.  He was 1 for 6 with 1 run scored and 4 RBIs.  The Indians are now tied 1-1 in this series.
