Justin Masterson has been awful for the Cleveland Indians

25-year old righty starting pitcher Justin Masterson has been awful this season for the Indians. Masterson has started 11 games for the Indians this year and he is 1-5 with a 5.46 ERA and a 1.82 WHIP. He has given up 75 hits and walked 33 batters in only 59 2/3 innings this year which is pathetic. Masterson has whiffed 55 batters this season so he can be effective if he starts getting aggressive and throwing more strikes. Masterson has pitched in 22 games (21 starts) in his first two years with the Indians and he is 2-12 with a 5.01 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP.

David Huff is proving that it’s sometimes better to be lucky than good for the Cleveland Indians

The Indians really have swung the bats well when 25-year old lefty pitcher David Huff has been on the mound this year. Huff has started 22 games for the Indians this season and he is 10-8 with a 5.98 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP. He has allowed 154 hits (16 homers) in only 120 1/3 innings for the Tribe this season as he doesn’t miss many bats. Huff better finish the season strong if he wants to be penciled into the starting rotation for 2010.

What in the world is wrong with Fausto Carmona of the Cleveland Indians?

Watching 25-year old righty starting pitcher Fausto Carmona pitch this season is downright painful. He has started 21 games for the Indians this season and he is 3-11 with a 6.58 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. He still has great stuff but he just doesn’t appear to know where the baseball is going when it leaves his hand. The most frustrating thing about watching Carmona pitch is remembering how good he was in 2007 when he started 32 games and was 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Where is that guy? In his other three seasons with the Indians (2006, 2008 and 2009), Carmona has pitched in 81 games (50 starts) in which he is 12-28 with a 5.84 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP. The Indians are running out of patience with Carmona who is turning into the Indians’ version of Daniel Cabrera and that’s not good.

The Cleveland Indians send Fausto Carmona to the minors

The Cleveland Indians have sent Fausto Carmona to the Arizona Rookie League. Carmona pitched in 12 games (all starts) for the Indians this year and he was 2-6 with a 7.42 ERA and a 1.81 WHIP. It’s starting to appear that Carmona’s 2007 season was a fluke. He has 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA in 32 starts in 2007. But, in 2008 and 2009 so far, Carmona has started 34 games in which he is 10-13 with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.69 WHIP. If Carmona doesn’t start throwing strikes soon his career could go the way of Daniel Cabrera and what a waste that would be.

The Cleveland Indians need to send Jeremy Sowers back to the minors

The Indians really need to send lefty starter Jeremy Sowers back to the minors as the beatings he’s taking right now can’t possibly help his confidence. Plus, it’s very hard to watch as he just doesn’t have good enough stuff to succeed unless he learns how to have a game plan like Jamie Moyer does. I compare Sowers to Moyer because they are both soft tossing lefties. Sowers has started 7 games for the Indians this year and he is 0-4 with a 7.53 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP. He has allowed 53 hits of which 8 were homeruns in only 34.2 innings which is dowright pathetic.
